Very pleased to see my photos in the Spring Fashion Issue of Los Angeles Confidential Magazine. I had a great time shooting these last month at BOA Steakhouse and am super happy with the editing/layout by Amy Wolff.

Last week I spent an amazing day with some really talented friends and ended up with some photos that I love. Camille Montgomery modeled, Jamie Richmond was on makeup, and Hanna Yoseph on hair. Most of the clothing was from my lovely and generous friends at Elkin.

Feb Update: LAC Mag/StyleSight/Etc

Yikes, it’s been a little while, huh? I’ve been nice and busy, getting through the holidays and shooting as much as possible.

Most recently I worked with Los Angeles Confidential Magazine on their new “Power Dining” section for the upcoming Spring issue. Can’t say much more about it now, but I’ll make sure to post when the issue comes out.

I’m also working with Amy Leverton from StyleSight on a very special project that I also can’t say much about (hint…think about what sites/blogs were before the internet existed), but the photo below is a little…tease.

Delaney Wessel for Refinery29

Good god, I’m bad at blogging. My last post was almost exactly a month ago. Anyway, I photographed Delaney Wessel last week for Refinery29 and I’m really happy to see the post go live today. It was such a relief that Delaney wasn’t a model- she’s actually a German Translater who just finished her masters and moved to LA. She’s super smart, normal, funny- basically perfect and if she were single I would set her up with all my friends.

Sarah St. Lifer, the R29 LA Assistant Editor and I went to Delaney’s place in Silverlake last Sunday, not really knowing what to expect. I didn’t bring much, as we pretty much always shoot R29 stuff in a few quick hours and lots of lighting is generally out of the question. Luckily, though, I brought my 14mm. Delaney’s bedroom is a tiny little cottage/hut/room in the yard of her main house. It’s about big enough for a twin bed and a small shelf. It was hard enough to get both of us inside, let alone shoot anything once we were in there. But the wide angle saved the day and I’m really happy with what we got.

Issa Rae for Refinery29

About a month ago, I photographed Issa Rae (aka Awkward Black Girl) for Refinery29. We met in Inglewood, at the doctors office where she shoots her show. The location presented some challenges and because we started in the evening, we only had about 15 minutes of daylight left to work with, but I thought we did pretty well with what we had.

Issa is really refreshing because her focus is on her show, which is all about smart humor. She’s super down to earth and doesn’t seem at all phased by the fact that her show is blowing up.

Kelly Wearstler for Refinery29

Last week I went to the Kelly Wearstler headquarters to shoot the space and the employees for Refinery29. For those who don’t know, Kelly Wearstler is a designer who started in interior design and now does fabric, clothing and jewelry as well. Her studio is decked out in her designs and whether or not you’re a fan (she has sort of a love/hate following), it’s a pretty incredible space. http://www.refinery29.com/kelly-wearstler-exclusive-interview

Collab with Crumbs Mag!

A few weeks ago I embarked on a fairly ambitious mission to cook, style, and shoot a Thanksgiving feast for Crumbs Magazine. Yes, I could have/should have hired a food stylist, but I got it in my head that I wanted to do the whole thing on my own. SO, I shopped, prepped, cooked, and photographed for four days straight and sent the photos over to the photo director, Rosa Park, at Crumbs. I couldn’t be more pleased with the way she edited the piece and put together an article and slideshow. I do wish I had put less emphasis on cooking and more emphasis on visual styling, but I think it turned out pretty well, regardless. Testing x Wren

It’s been awhile! But I’ve been busy. Last weekend my stylist friend Onjelai and I put together a test shoot with some amazing pieces from Wren. Our model, Rachel, was a delight, as was our hair/makeup artist Stacy.

We wanted to work off the concept of pretty pink party girl, which was perfect because although I still haven’t fully come to terms with this, I really love pink/bubble gum/tulle/lollipops/sparkles/sequins/anything shiny A LOT. WAY more than I’d like to. So yea, that worked. The last image below is off-theme, but one of my faves. I’m pretty pleased with our results.

TimeOut LA Launch

So, for the past month, I’ve been had the pleasure of shooting restaurant reviews for TimeOut Los Angeles in preparation for their relaunch. If you’re familiar with TimeOut, you know it’s pretty big/widely used in New York, but not so popular in LA. Hence, a redesign and relaunch. It’s definitely still a work in progress, but as of TODAY’S LAUNCH, things are looking way cooler.

Mexican Food

Refinery29 did a piece on the 60 best Mexican restaurants in LA and I was tasked with the job of shooting as many as possible in two days. I got 17, which I think is pretty good? East LA, Eastside, Westside, Mid-City. I pretty much only missed the Valley, which is never a bad thing. The post is at www.refinery29.com/mexican-restaurants.

I shot this piece for Refinery29 a few weeks ago at the Quiksilver headquarters in Huntington Beach. Their offices are pretty insane and everyone there is happy and beautiful and knows how to surf. Unfortunately, as cool as the space is, it’s crazy dark…hence a bit of a struggle to shoot. But it came together and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I’ve had a monolite and various modifiers for a while, but honestly, I just wasn’t using them well. Or often. Yesterday I pulled them out and messed around with a few (a couple softboxes, black/white umbrella). My roommate was being a good sport and modeled aka stood there for me. She’d probably move out if she knew I was putting her pic online. I also shot some film versions, which are currently at the lab.

I had another post all ready to go, but my iPad deleted it. Or something. Anyway, it was going to be my goodbye NY post, but now I’ll just have to write a hello LA one instead. I flew in late last night and woke up early today to get Intelligentsia with my lover. Then interviews and meetings- I always prefer to start off busy when I get back to town.

On one of my last days in NY, Serena and I went out and shot around the upper west side. We didn’t really have a vision or concept, so the whole thing sort of fell flat, but I thought this image was pretty nice. Not to mention she’s super gorgeous and incredibly confident. She’s 18, basically knows everyone in the UWS, and is a TROUBLE MAKER.

This is an outtake from a shoot I did with Alex today. He just finished grad school and needed a new shot for his LinkedIn profile…something I know very little about. I think my LinkedIn pic is an old headshot I took of myself on my bed. Anyway, the light in his upper west side apt is lovely and he’s super comfortable in front of the camera, which is a treat.
